About The Role


Our Balfour Beatty Highways business has an opportunity for a Sub-Agent to join our £1.2 billion Lower Thames Crossing project, consisting of 43 bridges, including viaducts, 17 km of complex high-ways construction, complex utility diversions, and an industry-leading approach to carbon reduction.


As a Sub-Agent, you will support the Design Engineering team in delivering projects related to the Lower Thames Crossing programme.


Responsibilities



  • Develop a safe working culture compliant with health and safety regulations, best practice, and the BB 4 Golden Rules; conduct weekly safety tours and ensure corrective actions are closed.

  • Produce fully resourced stage programmes, ensuring required resources are in place and trained before work commences.

  • Oversee, advise and coach Section (Senior Production) Engineers in engineering and lean production best practices; arrange training as needed for all engineers on the package.

  • Lead the quality management process, establish required standards, and ensure the project team – foremen, engineers, and subcontractors – understand specification and reporting requirements.

  • Liaise with the communications team to keep stakeholders and the public informed in line with the communications plan and DCO requirements.

  • Ensure compliance with the Environmental Management Plan and carbon targets; approve related documentation and integrate environmental and carbon considerations into site inspections.

  • Support pre-award and pre-start meetings for subcontract works, train Site and Section Engineers on the requisition and logistics process and monitor their compliance.

  • Ensure handover deliverables – construction certificates, redlines, O & B manuals, and H&S files – are incorporated into the stage programme.

  • Manage and mentor Section Engineers, Site Engineers and Apprentices; set individual targets, communicate performance expectations, and oversee onboarding and off-boarding.


Qualifications



  • Engineering or construction management qualification.

  • Proven experience in a similar role, preferably on large-scale infrastructure projects.

  • Strong leadership and communication skills.

  • Experience with NEC 3/4 contracts.

  • Knowledge of construction regulations and best practices.

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

  • Full UK driver’s licence.

  • Fit-for-work medical.

  • CSCS card.

  • BPSS security clearance.
