What You'll Do
You will join Avalara's International Compliance Operations team in Brighton, supporting new clients as they onboard into our VAT compliance services. This is a customer‑facing role focused on guiding clients through onboarding readiness rather than filing, helping them understand VAT requirements and how to provide accurate data. You will handle complex onboarding scenarios, improve processes, and contribute to scaling our services as we expand across EMEA. Working closely with global teams, you will help ensure a smooth transition from onboarding into ongoing compliance operations. You will also help advance how we use automation and AI to improve onboarding efficiency and accuracy. You will work on either a hybrid‑Brighton or fully remote basis and report to a Team Lead.
What Your Responsibilities Will Be
- Guide clients through VAT compliance requirements and onboarding readiness
- Deliver onboarding consultations and client education through calls and virtual meetings
- Validate client data, processes, and readiness for VAT filing operations
- Manage complex onboarding scenarios and resolve escalations
- Support international clients entering EMEA markets with VAT compliance setup
- Partner with offshore teams to guarantee a smooth transition into filing operations
- Track onboarding workflows and maintain accurate operational reporting
- Identify process gaps and implement improvements to increase efficiency
- Contribute to automation initiatives, including improving data extraction and validation processes
- Mentor junior team members and share best practices to improve team performance
- Raise operational standards by driving process improvements and improving onboarding consistency
What You'll Need To Be Successful
- 4+ years experience in VAT compliance
- Experience in a customer‑facing tax or compliance role with extensive VAT knowledge
- Experience explaining complex VAT requirements clearly to clients and internal teams
- Experience handling complex onboarding or compliance scenarios
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Experience improving processes, automation, or operational efficiency
- High attention to detail with strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills
- Professional tax qualification (such as ATT Foundation Diploma or equivalent)
- Demonstrated use of AI tools or data‑driven approaches to improve accuracy, reduce manual work, or identify process improvements
- Ability to work across international teams and collaborate effectively across locations
- Fluency in English; fluency in additional European languages would be beneficial
