Overview of the Role

As a senior hydrogeologist you will work within a large team of water‑resources specialists, delivering services for UK and international clients in public water supply, borehole construction, dewatering, consents, groundwater quality, abstraction impact assessments, modelling and catchment management.

Responsibilities

  • Provide senior technical advice on groundwater modelling, quality, the Water Framework Directive, geo‑environment, engineering hydrogeology and risk assessments.
  • Contribute to bid and proposal writing across water resources, environmental and engineering sectors.
  • Analyse data using Modflow, ArcGIS, QGIS, Python and Microsoft Excel.
  • Produce high‑quality reports for clients.

Essential Qualifications

  • Degree in hydrogeology, geology, environmental science, mathematics or a related discipline.
  • Good communication and written skills.
  • Well organised, able to prioritise own workload with minimal supervision.
  • Logical, pragmatic problem‑solving approach with attention to detail and motivation to innovate.
  • Understanding of health, safety, wellbeing and environmental priorities.
  • Experience with quantitative assessment of groundwater problems and understanding of groundwater flow systems.
  • Experience analysing environmental data including groundwater levels, river flows and climate data.
  • Experience delivering projects according to national regulations and guidance.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office tools.
  • Knowledge of groundwater modelling software such as MODFLOW.
  • Knowledge of programming (e.g., Python) and GIS tools (ArcGIS or QGIS).

Desirable Qualifications

  • Postgraduate qualification in hydrogeology, water resources management or a related discipline.
  • Professional consultancy experience in water resources.
  • Chartership with a professional body such as the Geological Society, CIWEM or ICE.
