Advanced Pharmacist – Adult Oncology
Deliver a specialist pharmacy service to adult oncology, supporting multidisciplinary teams and ensuring safe, effective medication use. Perform independent prescribing, develop guidelines, review SACT prescriptions, and support clinical trials within the Oncology and Haematology directorate.
Responsibilities
- Lead the building and review of electronic SACT prescriptions.
- Organise, provide, and evaluate the Independent Pharmacist Prescribing Service for outpatient and day‑case chemotherapy.
- Operate a daily Clinical Pharmacist Service to inpatients on wards, outpatient clinics, and day‑case chemotherapy units.
- Use specialist knowledge to make complex judgments, provide expert advice, evaluate evidence, and advise when evidence is lacking.
- Lead the introduction of new SACT medicines and review existing clinical trial protocols to ensure safety and alignment with national guidelines.
- Prepare new or off‑protocol prescription documentation and monitor off‑protocol prescribing.
- Adhere to local and national guidance, policies, and develop key guidelines, protocols, and PGDs.
- Act as pharmacist independent prescriber in clinics and optimise the use of independent prescribers.
Qualifications & Experience
Pharmacy degree, relevant postgraduate qualification in oncology pharmacy preferred. Experience with SACT prescribing, independent prescribing and multidisciplinary team work. Knowledge of national oncology guidelines and protocol development.
