Job Overview
Applications are invited to apply for the post of Senior Ophthalmic Specialist grade in Medical Retina and Urgent Care Service within Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The position is full‑time and based at the Moorfields satellite unit within Croydon University Hospital (CUH), involving eight direct patient care sessions as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Main Duties
- Be medically qualified, maintain GMC specialist registration and hold a licence to practice.
- Develop and maintain the competencies required to carry out the duties of the post.
- Ensure prompt attendance at agreed direct clinical care programmed activities.
- Engage patients in decisions about their care and respond to their views.

Person Specification
Education and Qualifications
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
- MRCOphth or equivalent.
- Full GMC Registration (with a Licence to Practice) or eligibility for GMC Registration.
Knowledge & Experience
- Wide experience in the Medical Retina subspecialty.
- Experience in urgent eye care and emergency ophthalmology management.
- Experience of leading management decisions in medical retina injection clinics.
- Four years full‑time postgraduate training, at least two of which must be in the Ophthalmology Specialty Training Programme or have equivalent experience & competencies.
Desirable Criteria
- Further qualifications in medical retina or urgent/emergency ophthalmology.
