As Senior Audiologist you will undertake routine audiological and rehabilitation procedures, including direct referrals for hearing aids and open access from GPs, and provide comprehensive services to patients referred by GPs and consultants. You will also support ENT outpatient clinics, supervise student clinicals, and keep current with professional knowledge and technology.

Job Responsibilities

  • Take a medical case history to exclude pathologies requiring medical opinion and determine appropriate audiometric tests.
  • Safely and accurately undertake appropriate test regimes for school‑age children and adults with hearing disorders, including direct referrals from GPs.
  • Analyse and interpret test results, provide appropriate reports and recommendations to clinicians and GPs.
  • Provide rehabilitation of adults with hearing disorders, including care planning and specialist advice for complex cases.
  • Use medical, physical, social and audiological assessment information to select appropriate ear moulds.
  • Take impressions of ears and adjust or alter ear moulds when required.
  • Select appropriate hearing aids and prescription formulae based on needs and diagnostic results.
  • Accurately fit hearing aids using real‑ear measurements.
  • Instruct adult patients and significant others on use of hearing aid, providing relevant information.
  • Counsel patients and significant others regarding the nature and extent of any hearing deficit to ensure maximum benefit from devices and other services.
  • Carry out first‑line management of repair of hearing aids.
  • Ensure correct operation and use of all audiological equipment and facilities, e.g., daily calibration, safety checks, decontamination.
  • Utilise an integrated testing and patient management system, including accurate clinical data entry.
  • Carry out ward visits and hearing aid repairs for inpatients as required.
  • Order stock and supplies as required and share responsibility for dispatch of ear moulds to manufacturer.

Person Specification

  • BSc in Audiology (post 2005/06) or equivalent in BAAT Pt 1 & II, Btech in MPPM or equivalent (pre‑2005).
  • Member of the Association of Head & Neck Specialists (AHCNS) / AHCS.
  • Relevant audiology experience at Band 5 level, including PTA, impedance measurements, hearing aid repairs, assessment and fitting.
  • Experience fitting a range of digital hearing aids and using real‑ear measurements.
  • Experience with direct referrals.
  • Knowledge and experience of equipment maintenance and calibration.
  • Member of BAA / BSA.
  • Previous experience with Oticon, Phonak, and GN hearing aids.
  • Experience in paediatric audiology assessments.
