Role Overview

We are recruiting for a Specialty Doctor in Forensic Psychiatry to join our Low Secure Services at Littlemore Mental Health Centre in Oxford. This is a full‑time post based at Thames House, a female low secure unit, with clinical responsibility across our male low secure unit, Wenric ward.

You will work closely with experienced Consultant Forensic Psychiatrists in a multidisciplinary team, providing high‑quality psychiatric and physical healthcare to a complex and rewarding patient group. The role offers comprehensive inpatient work including admissions, ward rounds, CPA reviews, discharge planning and Mental Health Act responsibilities, within a service that values relational security, thoughtful risk management and collaborative practice.

Responsibilities

  • Day‑to‑day management of the inpatients across both Low Secure Units, including clerking of new admissions, day‑to‑day care of inpatients, assessment and management of physical health conditions and making referrals where appropriate, contribution to ward rounds (including typing contemporaneous clinical notes into the electronic patient records), CPA review and discharge planning meetings, and occasional representations at Mental Health Act Tribunals.
  • Providing timely written correspondence to relevant professionals documenting assessments, ongoing management, progress, and eventual discharge using Trust IT and clinical records systems – training will be provided where needed.
  • Working collaboratively with other agencies, in particular liaison with staff from other teams to manage risk, physical health difficulties and smooth and timely transfer into and out of the unit.
  • Covering planned annual leave or emergency sick leave for other SAS doctors working at Littlemore Hospital, with reciprocal coverage.
  • Contributing to developing and delivering improved clinical services as outlined in the National Service Framework for Mental Health.
  • Contributing to the collection of data as required by the Trust and other relevant agencies, including the timely recording of clinical activity data and participation in clinical audit.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess full GMC registration and at least one year of full‑time postgraduate training in a medical speciality within the NHS.
