Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the ENT Otolaryngology department at Imperial. The successful applicant will be expected to have excellent experience within general and subspecialty Otolaryngology Surgery. The successful candidate will be expected to work flexibly and to bring new skills to the department.

The post holder will work as part of the Rhinology ENT team to provide a high quality Rhinology ENT service that aims to provide excellent patient care. This includes delivery of out‑patient, emergency, day‑case and inpatient services independently.

Main duties of the job

Job purpose

  • Enhance and complement the skill mix provided by the ENT Service at CHNT
  • Work with the multi‑disciplinary team to advance the Rhinology Service by developing new pathways and models of care.
  • Provide high quality care to all ENT patients
  • Develop and maintain the competencies required to carry out duties required of the post.
  • Ensure prompt attendance at agreed direct clinical care activities.
  • Ensure patients are involved in decisions about their care and respond to their views.
  • Take an active role in managing patient pathways in respective area.
  • Undertake administrative duties associated with patients in line with departmental guidelines.
  • Support training of junior specialist trainees and other junior doctors in the ENT surgery department.
  • Work collaboratively with all members of the multi‑disciplinary team and Imperial College as required.
  • Adhere to Trust/departmental guidelines on leave including reporting absence.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

A formal job plan will be agreed between the appointee and Divisional Director, on behalf of the Medical Director. This is not designed to be exhaustive.

The post holder and Divisional Director/Chief of Service will review the job plan annually in line with provisions in schedule 3 of the terms and conditions.

A provisional job plan is included in the Job Description. This is subject to change.

For a whole‑time contract: A total of 10 PAs

Clinical Activities: 8 PAs per week (including clinical activity, clinically related activity, predictable and unpredictable emergency work)

Supporting Professional Activities: 2 PAs per week (including audit, clinical governance, CPD, teaching, research, educational supervision of junior staff and CPD)

Attendance at regular department audit, M&M and business meetings are required.

Person specification

Education / Qualifications

  • On GMC’s register with a Licence to Practice or eligible to apply for GMC registration and a Licence to Practice
  • On GMC’s Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted to the register by the date of the interviews or eligible for specialist registration

Knowledge and Skills

  • Subspecialist knowledge and training in rhinology
  • IT skills and computer literacy
  • Able to take responsibility, show leadership, make decisions, exert appropriate authority
  • Have proven skills in leading, motivating, developing and managing the performance of colleagues
  • Management of staff
  • Knowledge of finance and budgets

Teaching and Training

  • Experience of teaching and training undergraduates/postgraduates and junior medical staff

Audit

  • Understanding of principles of clinical audit

Academic Achievement

  • Evidence of achievement appropriate to appointment at consultant level at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust

Language

  • Able to speak and write English to the appropriate standard necessary to fulfil the job requirements

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
