Overview
Same Day Medical Assessment Unit (SDMA) is a dynamic service delivering rapid assessment, treatment and clinical decision‑making for emergency same‑day medical patients. The unit operates 7 days a week, 07:00–22:00 Monday through Friday and 07:00–19:30 on weekends, playing a key role in supporting patient flow, avoiding unnecessary admissions and delivering high‑quality acute medical care in a fast‑paced and clinically demanding environment.
The post of Senior Sister / Charge Nurse is a senior leadership position on the unit. The successful candidate will provide professional, clinical and operational leadership, ensuring safe, effective and compassionate care in line with Trust values, national standards and local pathways.
Responsibilities
- Lead the unit on shift, coordinating patient flow, workforce management and clinical priorities.
- Manage shifts operating seven days a week from 07:00 to 22:00 Monday‑Friday, and 07:00 to 19:30 on weekends.
- Work closely with the multidisciplinary team and Band 6 team leaders who oversee areas of the unit.
- Act as a role model and effective leader, exercising leadership skills to act as a catalyst for change.
- Develop and coordinate effective team working.
- Communicate regularly with the team regarding trust objectives, plans and business developments.
- Support staff development and promote the growth of same‑day emergency services.
Qualifications
- Senior nurse with experience in acute care and a strong track record of leadership behaviours.
- Proven ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, clinically demanding environment.
- Passion for developing same‑day emergency services and supporting staff development.
