An opportunity has arrived on 106/107 for a senior staff nurse on an 18 month contract to cover maternity leave. Ward 106/107 is a 32 bedded fast paced area that specialises in Urology and Gynaecology, caring for patients pre and post operatively. The post holder will be an empowered and valued member of the multi-disciplinary team, acting as nurse in charge, deputising in the absence of Senior Sister and advocating on behalf of staff and patients. You need to have the ability to remain calm under pressure and prioritise work effectively. This role will have a mixture of clinical and non‑clinical aspects and you will be required to assist with management tasks, audits and attend meetings face to face and via Teams. The post holder will need to rotate with other band 6 staff in the planned care group to complete a weekend staffing shift and ensure safe staffing across the division.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate effectively with MDT, colleagues, patients and visitors.
  • Complete managerial tasks, such as:
    • DATIX investigation
    • Appraisals
    • Audits
    • Absence management
    • Recruitment
    • Governance
    • Roster
  • Answer complaints at ward level and written.
  • Teach and empower staff with their practice and promote accountability and responsibility.
  • Act as nurse in charge and deputise in the absence of Senior Sister.
  • Liaise with flow and site team to ensure safe admissions and discharges to ward and to accommodate escalation procedures.
  • Respond to departmental on‑going developments.
  • Remain responsible for self and delegated tasks.
  • Recognise when help and guidance is required.
  • Direct patient care.
  • Supportive of all nursing roles.
  • Commit to educational programs to support leadership.
