The Role

An established aerospace manufacturing organisation is seeking an Automation & Metallics Engineer to join its Manufacturing Technologies team. The role focuses on the deployment, development and support of automated machinery used in the assembly of aircraft wing structures and sub‑assemblies.

You will be involved across the full lifecycle of automated assembly solutions, from defining new machinery and developing assembly processes through to providing technical support for existing equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deployment and technical support of automated assembly machinery
  • Development of new automated manufacturing processes
  • Definition and introduction of new machinery
  • Project management of automation activities
  • Supporting existing automated machinery and production systems
  • Working with assembly processes including drilling, fastening, cold‑working and sealing
  • Supporting machinery ranging from large Cartesian systems and industrial robotics to cobots
  • Ensuring compliance with PUWER requirements for safe machinery introduction
  • Proven experience in automation and/or robotics within a manufacturing environment
  • Strong understanding of automated assembly processes
  • Knowledge of PUWER legislation and REACH requirements
  • Strong problem‑solving capability (including PPS)
  • Proficient digital and data analysis skills
  • Experience using statistical or data analysis tools such as Minitab or Skywise

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 4 or equivalent preferred

This role would suit an experienced Automation Engineer or Robotics Engineer with a strong background in automated aerospace or high‑precision manufacturing environments.
