Refrigeration Design Engineer
As an HVAC & Refrigeration Design Engineer, you will work across the design and development of refrigeration systems for bespoke equipment in a growing SME that specialises in low-batch projects for specialist sectors.
Salary & Hours
Competitive salary of approximately £45,000. Days based role – 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday‑Thursday, and 8:00 am to 1:00 pm Friday. Overtime paid at 1.5× for any hours beyond the basic 37 per week.
Qualifications
- Strong understanding of refrigeration cycles and thermodynamics
- Experience in the design of HVAC&R or thermofluid systems
- Knowledge of heat transfer and fluid flow principles
- Experience in product development or system design
- Experience designing systems in accordance with relevant safety and regulatory standards
- Practical mindset, willing to run tests and engage in hands‑on engineering tasks

Responsibilities
- Design and develop refrigeration systems and bespoke engineering equipment
- Produce detailed 3D CAD models and engineering drawings
- Perform thermodynamic calculations and system simulations
- Select appropriate components (compressors, heat exchangers, expansion devices, refrigerants)
- Ensure compliance with relevant standards (e.g., PED, CE marking, safety regulations)
- Build and test prototypes, analysing performance and efficiency
