GDB Civils & Utilities Ltd. is a growing civil engineering and utilities contractor based in Cockermouth, Cumbria, with operations across the North-West of England. We pride ourselves on delivering high-quality projects with a strong focus on safety, customer service, and operational excellence.

As our business continues to grow, we are seeking a motivated and organised Accounts Assistant to join our supportive and collaborative team.

The Role

Working under the leadership of the Accountant, the Accounts Assistant will play a key role in supporting the day-to-day financial operations of the business and wider business services team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with previous accounts or finance administration experience who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and is looking to further develop their career within a growing business.

Key Responsibilities

• Processing high-volume purchase invoices and matching to purchase orders
• Reconciling supplier statements and resolving invoice queries
• Supporting payroll administration and VAT preparation
• Preparing supplier payment runs
• Carrying out bank reconciliations and maintaining financial records
• Managing finance inbox queries and supplier communications
• Supporting month-end finance processes
• Providing general finance and administrative support across the business
  

About You

We are looking for someone who has:

• Previous experience in an accounts, finance administration, purchase ledger, or accounts payable role
• Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
• Experience using accounting software such as Xero or Sage (preferred but not essential)
• Excellent communication and organisational skills
• The ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines in a busy environment
• A proactive and adaptable approach to work
  

Qualifications

• AAT qualified or currently studying towards AAT (desirable)
• GCSE Grade C / Level 5 (or equivalent) in English and Maths
• Previous experience within construction, utilities, or civil engineering sectors advantageous but not essential
