Graduate Health and Safety Advisor Job Description -Role Overview
A Graduate Health and Safety Advisor supports the implementation and maintenance of health, safety, and environmental (HSE) systems within an organisation. This entry-level role is designed for recent graduates looking to develop practical experience in workplace safety, risk management, and compliance with legislation.
Key Responsibilities -Health & Safety Support
- Assist in implementing company health and safety policies and procedures
- Support compliance with relevant legislation (e.g. Health and Safety at Work Act)
- Promote a positive health and safety culture across the organisation
Risk Assessment & Inspections
- Help carry out risk assessments and identify potential hazards
- Participate in site inspections and safety audits
- Report unsafe conditions and recommend corrective actions
Incident Reporting & Investigation
- Assist in investigating accidents, incidents, and near-misses
- Help prepare reports and identify root causes
- Support implementation of preventative measures
Training & Communication
- Support delivery of safety inductions and toolbox talks
- Assist in developing safety awareness campaigns
- Communicate safety information to employees and contractors
Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain accurate H&S records and documentation
- Assist in preparing reports for internal and external audits
- Ensure policies and procedures are up to date
Environmental & Compliance (if applicable)
- Support environmental initiatives and sustainability goals
- Assist in monitoring environmental performance

Qualifications & Requirements
- Degree (or working towards) in:
- Health & Safety
- Environmental Science
- Engineering or related discipline
- Knowledge of basic health and safety legislation
- Membership or working towards IOSH (e.g. GradIOSH)
- NEBOSH General Certificate (desirable or willingness to obtain)
- IT skills (Microsoft Office, reporting tools)
Typical Working Environment
- Combination of office-based work and site visits (construction, manufacturing, or corporate settings)
- May require travel between sites
- PPE required when visiting operational areas
