Overview
Our client has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Protection & Control Project Engineer to join a multi-disciplinary engineering team. The role will support the development and delivery of an expanding portfolio of transmission projects aligned to Net Zero targets.
This is a 12-month contract position with hybrid working, typically 3 days per week in the office (flexibility available). The role sits within a programme of upcoming transmission projects and offers the opportunity to contribute to large-scale infrastructure delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide protection and control engineering support across multiple transmission projects, defining technical scope requirements during development stages and evaluating third-party detailed designs during delivery.
- Review and assess panel designs and protection schemes, ensuring compliance with project specifications and industry standards.
- Configure protection and control systems, including calculation and preparation of protection settings aligned to application and scheme requirements.
- Evaluate and adjudicate factory acceptance tests (FATs) carried out by third-party contractors for both new build and retrofit installations.
- Support multi-disciplinary teams in identifying, managing, and mitigating engineering risks, while identifying opportunities to enhance project delivery.
- Take ownership of engineering deliverables, ensuring outputs are completed on time and to programme.
- Contribute to the development of digital design capabilities and standardisation of protection schemes across the organisation.
- Provide clear technical input and guidance to stakeholders, enabling informed engineering and project decisions.
Skills & Experience Required
- Minimum HNC in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent qualification).
- Demonstrable experience in:
- Transmission protection and control systems
- Panel and scheme design
- Protection settings calculations and implementation
- Experience in either or both:
- Protection scheme design
- Protection settings engineering
- Strong analytical capability with the confidence to critically assess technical problems and evaluate multiple engineering solutions.
- Ability to review and validate third-party contractor designs and test results.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, concise information for stakeholders and decision-makers.
- High level of engineering diligence, attention to detail, and accountability.
