The FinTech team at HSBC Innovation Banking (‘HINV’) are sector professionals exclusively focused on high growth FinTechs. We cover the full breadth of the sector from software underpinning financial services, specialist wealthtech, insurtech and alt lenders, through to complex paytech businesses. Our relationship managers work with founders driving the next generation of innovation in financial services, and have relationships with VCs and corporates who fund them. We look to convene our industry to foster meaningful connections and share our knowledge and experience to give others the tools to grow.
The Value You’ll Add
As a Relationship Director in HSBC Innovation Banking’s FinTech team, you’ll originate, develop, and manage relationships with high‑growth FinTechs and scale‑ups. You’ll deliver tailored banking solutions across lending, deposits, cash management, FX, and HSBC’s international capabilities, while managing financial crime risk responsibly for high‑risk business models. The role focuses on building trusted, long‑term relationships with founders and CEOs of scaling businesses from Series A onwards, leveraging HSBC Innovation Banking’s expertise, network, and platform to help clients grow.
You’ll also build strong internal networks across HINV globally, partnering closely with the Debt Finance team, Portfolio Managers, Treasury and Trade product teams, Financial Crime, and Operations to deliver a seamless end‑to‑end client experience.
What You Can Expect To Be Doing
Client coverage & growth
- Own a portfolio of FinTech clients (venture‑backed and/or high‑growth) and drive revenue through deep relationship management
- Originate new relationships via the FinTech ecosystem (VCs, accelerators, founders, advisers) and convert prospect pipeline into sustainable client wins
- Build multi‑product strategies for each client, aligning to their business model, funding runway, and international expansion plans
Solutions & execution
- Structure and deliver appropriate product solutions across:
- Venture debt, growth lending and working capital funding
- Deposits and liquidity management
- Payments and cash management
- FX and risk management
- Global network banking for international subsidiaries
- Introductions to broader HSBC product partners including HSBC Ventures, Partnerships, Investment Banking and Private Banking
- Coordinate internal stakeholders to deliver a seamless client experience from onboarding through to ongoing servicing
- Maintain strong understanding of FinTech business models (payments, SaaS, lending, regtech, insurtech, crypto/digital assets), how these models are innovating and how they translate into banking needs
Risk, governance & controls
- Take end‑to‑end responsibility for risk management within the portfolio, ensuring full ownership of the financial crime risk for each client
- Ensure robust KYC/AML, onboarding, and periodic review standards are met, partnering closely with financial crime compliance and operations
- Apply sound judgement on reputational risk, financial crime risk, and regulatory considerations relevant to FinTechs
- Maintain accurate pipeline, forecasting, and client documentation in CRM and relevant systems
Ecosystem leadership & thought partnership
- Represent HINV in the FinTech community through events, panels, and partner engagements
- Provide market insight back into the business (sector trends, competitor activity, client feedback) to shape proposition and strategy
Requirements
- Strong, proven origination skills to build a high‑quality client portfolio
- Expert Relationship Management skills with companies from the FinTech sector
- Strong finance, analysis and commercial lending experience including a familiarity with venture debt and working capital solutions
- Excellent all‑round knowledge of banking products, including Treasury, FX, Payments and Trade Finance Solutions
- Passionate about technology start‑ups and the venture ecosystem including an existing network of VC contacts
Where You’ll Be Based
Our home office in Finsbury Square, London. We offer hybrid working to our employees, so you can flex between home and the office, with a current requirement to be in the office 2 days per week.
