Role Summary

Director of AI – Chief Data Office at Intact Insurance UK Ltd. This leadership position leads the AI strategy and initiatives across the organisation, ensuring data‑centric AI practices align with business goals and comply with regulation and ethical standards. The role encompasses overseeing AI frameworks, establishing a data‑centric AI centre of excellence, and driving AI adoption through experimentation and deployment of production machine learning models.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee AI initiatives, establishing frameworks and processes for data‑centric AI use cases on the AI & data platforms (e.g., machine learning deployment).
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive AI strategy aligned with the CDO, business objectives and the CIO operating model.
  • Identify and pursue innovative AI projects that leverage data to deliver business value.
  • Drive experimentation through prototypes and proofs of concept, providing sandbox environments, tooling advisory and accelerators.
  • Research and implement the latest trends and advancements in data science and AI, integrating relevant technologies into live projects.
  • Design, support the development of, and oversee the deployment of ML models.
  • Define and manage data‑centric AI frameworks, ensuring compliance with regulations, ethical standards and internal policies.
  • Establish an AI Data‑Centric CoE, partnering with central AI governance to support business‑led use cases.
  • Build, mentor and lead a high‑performing team of data scientists and ML engineers.
  • Provide senior leaders with recommendations and reporting on AI initiatives and usage.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Extensive background in Data Science, Machine Learning and AI with an understanding of the insurance industry, including commercial and specialty lines.
  • Strong knowledge of responsible AI, data architecture, analytics frameworks, and a passion for staying current with developments in Data and AI.
  • Experience with Azure, Databricks, ML Platforms, and implementation of large‑language‑model (LLM) solutions in an enterprise setting.
  • Hands‑on experience with TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit‑learn and data engineering/cloud platforms.
  • Proven leadership experience, excellent communication skills and the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels, translating complex AI concepts for non‑technical audiences.
  • Deep knowledge of compliance frameworks and ethical AI guidelines.
