Project Officer – University Hospital Southampton NHS Trust

The Wessex Cancer Alliance (WCA) seeks a Project Officer to join the Service Improvement Team, supporting the review and redesign of cancer pathways across Wessex. The role will assist with organising and facilitating meetings, action planning, data analysis, reporting, and stakeholder engagement to improve patient experience and outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Organise, facilitate, and take minutes for internal and external meetings.
- Create and track action plans from project start to delivery.
- Analyse complex data (e.g., patient pathways, demand and capacity) and produce recommendations.
- Prepare reports, highlight reports, and present findings to stakeholders.
- Support stakeholder engagement and provide general project support to project and programme managers.
- Apply improvement methodologies and data to understand and improve processes.
- Continuously develop improvement skills through formal and informal training.
Qualifications & Experience
- First Degree or equivalent experience/diplomas.
- Knowledge and application of a recognised service improvement technique.
- Evidence of further training, study or courses.
- Experience leading and implementing change and influencing behaviour.
- Experience at a junior level in industry or healthcare sector.
- Self‑starter with minimal direction and leadership ability.
- Facilitation of meetings/groups.
- Literate, with report‑writing skills.
- Structured project management skills and experience.
- Ability to analyse and interpret information and present to varied audiences.
- Problem‑solving and solution‑development skills.
- Experience in project or change management training.
- Working knowledge of more than one improvement methodology.
- Previous experience in a healthcare setting and of quality/service improvement.
Further Information
The role is full‑time, 37.5 hours per week, with a hybrid arrangement and a minimum of two on‑site days per week. Salary: £39,959 to £48,117 per annum, pro‑rata based on hours.
