Overview
NWSSP is responsible for the full Procure to Pay process for all Health Boards, Trusts, and Special Health Authorities in Wales. A vacancy has arisen for a Category Manager within the National Medical Sourcing team.
Key Responsibilities
- Support teams in understanding the strategic direction of NHS Wales organisations and alignment with NWSSP objectives under the Integrated Medium-Term Plan.
- Assist the Assistant Head of National Sourcing in delivering the National Sourcing Category Strategy for Medical Devices.
- Develop and deliver a comprehensive sourcing plan, prioritising customer needs and generating savings from non-pay budgets.
- Apply commercial acumen and enable procurement in a complex, changing NHS Wales environment.
- Lead innovative and strategic service‑improvement initiatives, challenging historical practice to adopt best practice and improve efficiency.
- Oversee operational management and performance monitoring of the Procurement team against departmental KPIs.
- Support the Assistant Head in responding to FOI and Audit and Assurance queries.
Qualifications & Essentials
- Demonstrated commercial skills, negotiation and relationship‑management with internal and external stakeholders.
- Continuous‑improvement mindset, flexibility and resilience in a dynamic environment.
- Track record of delivering creative and innovative service‑improvement solutions.
- Strong organisational skills, ability to manage heavy workload at pace and adhere to policies and procedures.
- Desirable: experience in medical device sourcing; not essential, as on‑the‑job training will be provided.
- Desirable: ability to speak Welsh; English proficiency sufficient for all roles.
Working Arrangement
The role is based in Cardiff with hybrid working after induction. Successful candidates will work from the office or home for a mix of 3 to 2 days per week, depending on mutual agreement.
