EDM Applications Engineer

Location: Coventry-based with UK & European travel

A leading UK engineering solutions provider specialising in high-end machine tools is looking to appoint an EDM Applications Engineer as part of its continued growth. The business delivers fully engineered solutions across conventional and Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM), ranging from standalone machines to fully automated manufacturing cells.

Role

This is a hands‑on, customer‑facing applications role combining technical expertise with project delivery. The successful candidate will support customers through training, pre‑sales engineering, and the delivery of turnkey EDM solutions across the UK and Europe.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver structured customer training on EDM machine operation, programming, and maintenance.
  • Support pre‑sales activity, including component test cuts, fixture planning, and cycle time estimation.
  • Develop machining strategies and produce CNC programs using ISO and CAM‑based systems.
  • Manage prove‑out, First Article Inspection (FAI), and acceptance criteria at customer sites.
  • Work independently and collaboratively to deliver complex, high‑value engineering projects.
  • Travel across the UK and Europe to support turnkey project implementation.

Qualifications

  • At least 4 years’ experience within an EDM machine tool environment (Wire EDM, Sink EDM, or Fast Hole Drilling).
  • Strong working knowledge of ISO NC programming.
  • Practical background as a Production Engineer or CNC Machinist / Setter / Operator.
  • Experience using CAM software for program and simulation (beneficial but not essential).
  • Highly self‑motivated with strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Clear and confident communicator, both written and verbal.
