The Role
As a Senior Java Developer, you will lead the design and development of scalable Java‑based applications, mentor junior engineers and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to deliver high‑quality software. You will ensure adherence to coding standards, performance optimisation and industry best practices while contributing to architecture discussions and technical decision‑making.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, enhance and maintain Java‑based backend services and applications.
- Apply object‑oriented design principles and development best practices.
- Work with frameworks such as Spring, Spring Boot and Hibernate.
- Design and integrate RESTful APIs, microservices and web services.
- Develop and optimise SQL queries and work with relational databases such as Oracle.
- Use Git for version control and follow standard branching strategies.
- Build and manage applications using Maven or other build tools.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams across the full SDLC.
- Mentor and support junior developers as part of the development team.
Your Profile
Essential skills/knowledge/experience
- Strong understanding of object‑oriented programming and design patterns.
- Hands‑on experience with Java, Spring, Spring Boot, Hibernate and related frameworks.
- Experience building and integrating RESTful APIs and microservices.
- Solid experience with relational databases and ORM tools.
- Strong knowledge of Git or similar version‑control systems.
- Experience with build tools such as Maven.
- Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within Agile teams.
- Familiarity with containerisation (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes).
- Experience with AWS or other cloud platforms.
- Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
- Understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies.
