Buckinghamshire Priority Dental Service (BPDS) is looking for an enthusiastic and conscientious part‑time Dentist, working 24 hours per week, with excellent interpersonal skills and interests in all fields of dentistry. You will join a team responding to change, redesigning services, committed to a patient‑focused NHS, and developing innovative solutions to improve access and oral health. The dynamic team includes specialists, dental therapists, and dental core trainees.
Main Duties
The post holder will have full registration with the GDC and will provide dental care to people of all ages, including those with special needs, physical disabilities and other priority groups. Duties include:
- Treatment under inhalation sedation
- Providing domiciliary care
- Treatment of patients in prison/secure units
- Possibly treatment under IV sedation, general anaesthesia and providing epidemiology fieldwork
- Opportunities to train junior staff such as a Dental Core Trainee

Detailed Job Description & Main Responsibilities
Provide a full range of dental care to any patient accessing the Buckinghamshire Priority Dental Service, including priority groups, special needs children and adults who require care.
Dentists will be expected to adhere to prescribed clinical and administrative procedures and:
- Obtain and verify a complete medical history for all patients
- Obtain informed, valid consent for all invasive dental procedures, including taking radiographs, from the patient or an adult with parental authority and give a treatment plan
- Record all aspects of clinical examination, relevant medical history and treatment on the computerized patient management system
- Complete all computerized and written records necessary for reporting of clinical activity and to ensure collection of all patient charges due
- Prescribe appropriate medication from the dental formulary
- Follow all elements of the CNWL Clinical Governance policies, particularly those relating to cross‑infection control, health & safety, patient confidentiality and data protection
- Ensure all radiographs are justified, reported and appropriately recorded in the radiograph log book to maintain radiographic quality assurance
- Participate in clinical audit and peer review programmes relating to activity undertaken for the Dental Service
- Maintain confidentiality regarding building security, equipment, money and telephone numbers
- Protect dental clinic equipment and materials as they remain the property of the CNWL Community Dental Service
- Offer telephone advice or remote consultations when appropriate
- Communicate operational concerns regarding performance of equipment, protocols and team members

Qualifications – Essential Criteria
- Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS)
- Full registration with the GDC
- NHS Performer number
Experience – Essential Criteria
- Current or recent experience working as a dentist with clinical commitment in hospital, salaried or general dental service
- Ability to diagnose, manage and treat urgent dental problems for both children and adults
Desirable Experience
- Clerical experience using dental software packages
- Previous experience in urgent care dental services
- Understanding of telephone triage
- Previous experience conducting remote telephone and video consultations
- Ability to supervise trainees and unqualified staff
- Experience assisting with care under general anaesthesia
- Experience assisting with care under inhalation sedation
- Experience assisting with domiciliary care
Knowledge – Essential Criteria
- Demonstrable knowledge of cross infection control standards
