Optegra has an exciting new opportunity for an experienced Glaucoma Doctor to join our dedicated team.

This is a part‑time role with a weekly commitment of 19 hours, spread across two days (Wednesdays and Fridays).

The Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Staff Grade Doctor to support our NHS medical glaucoma service, providing both clinical and surgical assistance. This position requires compassion, deep knowledge of glaucoma management, and strong patient care skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, evaluate and manage patients with existing and undiagnosed glaucoma alongside other ocular conditions.
  • Perform diagnostic tests such as visual field assessments, OCT, CCT and gonioscopy.
  • Provide management plans for glaucoma referrals.
  • Provide pre‑operative and post‑operative care to patients.
  • Collaborate with ophthalmologists, optometrists and other healthcare professionals to develop comprehensive treatment plans.
  • Participate in regular team meetings and contribute to service development initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and ensure compliance with healthcare regulations.
  • Provide education and support to patients and their families regarding glaucoma management and treatment options.

What You’ll Need

  • Medical degree from a recognised university
  • Valid GMC registration with a licence to practice in the UK
  • Experience in ophthalmology, particularly in managing glaucoma cases, and ability to work independently
  • UK NHS glaucoma clinic experience
  • Gonioscopy experience
  • SLT laser experience
  • Excellent diagnostic and clinical skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and independently
