Responsibilities
- Scrub cases for multiple specialties in a fast‑paced outpatient setting
- Anticipate the needs of the operative team while monitoring and preserving the sterile field
- Review case cart for correct instrumentation and supplies
- Perform patient transfers as needed
- Lift twenty‑five (25) pounds and wear lead when required for surgical procedures
- Stand for extended periods of time to support the surgical team
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, registered nurses and other surgical personnel during operative procedures
- Work collaboratively to prepare rooms between cases
- Participate in departmental problem‑solving, ongoing QA activities, new employee orientation, and student education
- Perform other duties as assigned
Key Skills and Development
- Assist with state‑of‑the‑art instruments, sutures and additional sterile supplies during procedures
- Effectively turnover and transfer instruments to the CSR/Decontamination area
- Demonstrate calm and reliable task completion while delivering excellent patient care
- Pass instruments, retract tissue, and operate equipment during surgery to expand knowledge and skill set
- Multitask while maintaining focus on the surgeons’ instrumentation needs
- Work under pressure and in demanding situations with perseverance and stamina, including patient transfers
- Maintain a positive attitude in challenging situations
Required Qualifications
- High school graduation or equivalent education and experience
- Completion of an accredited or military Surgical Technologist program
- Two years of experience as a Surgical Technologist
Desired Qualifications
- Certification from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)
- Ambulatory (outpatient) experience
- Experience in a pediatric setting
- Recent experience (within the past two years) in general surgery (minimally invasive, oncology, endocrine), gynecology (minimally invasive, oncology), or otolaryngology (FESS with Fusion, sleep endoscopy)
- Self‑motivated and excellent organizational skills
