Vacancy at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust for an Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) to join the Respiratory team.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver care for a range of acute respiratory conditions including asthma, COPD, respiratory infections, and complications of lung cancer.
  • Provide assessment and management in the Respiratory Assessment Unit and Respiratory Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) unit.
  • Offer autonomous early intervention for patients presenting to the emergency department (ED) on the Queens Medical Campus.
  • Perform clinical assessment, diagnosis and treatment of undiagnosed and undifferentiated conditions.
  • Refer patients to appropriate specialties and facilitate safe discharge.
  • Develop and conduct audit and research projects; update and implement departmental policies, protocols and guidelines in line with national guidance.
  • Provide clinical advice and support to multi‑professional colleagues.
  • Engage in continuous professional development and teaching within the department.

Training Pathway

  • Year 1 – Band 6, 15 hours per week dedicated to MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice; work within the department.
  • Year 2 – Full‑time, supernumerary; complete work‑based learning and non‑medical prescribing modules; obtain competency sign‑off and mentorship.
  • Year 3 – Complete remaining modules and portfolio; undertake a VIVA and transition onto the rota with supervisory period; advance to Band 8a (qualified ACP).

Qualifications

  • Registered nurse or allied health professional at first level.
  • Ability to undertake non‑medical prescribing.
  • Relevant experience in respiratory or equivalent clinical setting.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to liaise with patients and families.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and undertaking an MSc as an apprentice at the University of Nottingham.
