Service Line: High Support Inpatient Rehabilitation (Level 2) for men
Professionally Accountable to: Consultant Psychiatrist
Managerially Responsible to: Hospital Manager

We are seeking an experienced full‑time Specialty Doctor who will work at Cygnet Newton House and provide psychiatric care within our 21‑bed high support inpatient rehabilitation (level 2) service and community rehabilitation (level 1) service for men. You will be fully involved as a practising psychiatrist – while being fully supported by a Consultant Psychiatrist and first‑class multidisciplinary team.
Cygnet Newton House is dedicated to providing a high quality environment for promoting long‑term recovery. From admission, the team works with the men we support to maximise positive outcomes and recovery, while focusing on discharge plans to support them to move on to the least restrictive environment for them. Our dedicated clinical team provide a multi‑disciplinary input including occupational therapy, psychology, psychiatry and vocational training.
Located 1 mile from Blackpool centre, Cygnet Newton House benefits from being close to plenty of amenities. There are good public transport links in the area with regular buses to the beach and other popular locations – the bus stop is just outside the service.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide routine medical and psychiatric support including initial clerking and mental state examination of newly admitted patients.
- Carry out the assessment, appropriate investigation, diagnosis and treatment under Consultant supervision of inpatients of the unit.
- Maintain good communication with ward nursing staff, mental health professionals and other agencies as required.
- Participate in weekly ward rounds and other multidisciplinary meetings, including CPA, Tribunal hearings & Section 117 meetings.
- Maintain full records of medical and psychiatric assessments and interventions.
- Prepare discharge summaries in line with company policies and guidelines.
- Attend all mandatory training e.g. BLS, ILS, Breakaway training/PMVA training, Moving and Transferring, Infection Control, H&S.
- Communicate effectively through regular contact with patients, relatives, staff, directors, and any other concerned bodies; maintaining appropriate reports.
- Participate in the duty doctor on‑call rota.

- Fully GMC registered & MBBS (or equivalent) qualified
- Experienced & knowledgeable in general adult or rehabilitation psychiatry
- Knowledgeable of the Mental Health Act and Code of Practice, along with the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Code of Capacity
- A first‑rate communicator who can interview, assess & treat patients & write clear, comprehensive medical notes
- Committed to continued professional development
- Able to work as part of a multi‑disciplinary team
- A member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) or equivalent
