Clinical Research Fellow in Vascular Surgery
The closing date is 27 May 2026
The Vascular Department is looking for a well-motivated and enthusiastic individual to join their team as a Clinical Research Fellow. This post is particularly well suited to an experienced resident vascular specialist looking to expand their research portfolio.
The Department of Vascular Surgery provides a Trust-wide service, with the arterial hub based at University Hospital Coventry and outreach to three spoke hospitals: Warwick Hospital, Rugby St. Cross, and George Eliot Hospital. Outpatient clinics and day-case procedures are delivered across these sites.
University Hospital Coventry is a 1,000+ bed tertiary centre, a designated Level III Trauma Unit, and affiliated with Warwick Medical School, one of the UK's leading medical institutions.
We run an established Surgeon‑led EVAR/FEVAR programme performed in the vascular operating theatre, with TEVAR and aortic arch interventions also undertaken by the vascular team, including emergency out‑of‑hours TEVAR for BTAI.
The unit provides complex lower limb revascularisation (open and endovascular), diabetic limb salvage, carotid surgery, and the full spectrum of vascular procedures. Services are supported by a dedicated vascular laboratory and an interventional radiology team.
N.B. We reserve the right to close a vacancy before the closing date if we receive a high volume of applications or if there has been a change in organisational priorities.
Job responsibilities
As part of our commitment to patients and delivery of a world class service for all we have created the UHCW Improvement (UHCWi) System in partnership with the Virginia Mason Institute in Seattle; this involves a structured approach to removing waste and putting the patient first using a lean management system and methodologies. Our culture and ways of working reflect and embed the practices and methodologies of UHCWi. You are expected, where identified, to attend and complete relevant training and development opportunities to support this. This may include Lean for Leaders, Advanced Lean Training, and the Human Factors Programme, amongst others. Full attendance and completion of identified courses is considered essential and a prerequisite for this post. Clinical basic 40 hours per week. Inpatient and Day surgery theatre sessions and outpatient clinics, care of inpatients, administrative work, teaching junior staff and medical students, urology middle grade on call. Urology services, emergency and elective, continue to evolve rapidly.
