This role is based at Ridgeway School in Farnham.

Main Responsibilities

  • Deliver safe, high‑quality, child‑centred nursing care, including medication oversight, tracheostomy and PEG care, and emergency response.
  • Assess health needs, make informed clinical decisions, and contribute to safeguarding and multi‑agency work.
  • Communicate effectively with children, families, and professionals, using alternative communication methods where needed.
  • Develop and review personalised care plans and empower families in managing health needs.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential records and ensure safe use of medical equipment.
  • Provide training, supervision, and mentorship to school staff and students.
  • Support service improvement through audit, evaluation, and evidence‑based practice.
  • Work autonomously while upholding high professional standards across the school nursing service.

Ideal Candidate

Essential

  • RGN and/or RSCN with child and/or learning disability experience.
  • Experience working with children with additional needs.
  • Good working knowledge of Child Protection policy & procedures.
  • Clear understanding of community health services.
  • Able to communicate effectively.
  • Clear, concise written and oral communication.
  • Able to work autonomously and prioritise own work effectively.

Desirable

  • School nurse degree or diploma.
  • Experience working with children with complex health needs.
  • Previous working experience in a special school setting.
  • Experience initiating and participating in clinical audits.

Other Requirements

The post holder must be a car driver with a valid driving licence.
