The Role: What you will do

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and compassionate Psychological Therapist to join our Psychological Therapies for SMI Service. You will work as part of a motivated, cohesive and well‑supported multidisciplinary clinical team, delivering high‑quality, evidence‑based psychological interventions to adults with complex and severe mental health difficulties.

This role is suited to a clinician with a strong track record of working in primary or secondary care settings, and experience of treating a wide range of mental health presentations, including personality disorder, psychosis, bipolar disorder and trauma‑related difficulties.

Clinical Approach and Supervision

We are seeking therapists with additional training in one or more psychological therapy modalities, including:

  • Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), ideally with specialism in personality disorder, psychosis or bipolar disorder
  • Psychodynamic and relational approaches, including:
    • Interpersonal Therapy (IPT)
    • Mentalisation Based Therapy (MBT)
    • Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT)

Experience of working with personality disorder and trauma presentations is essential. Training and experience in EMDR is desirable. You will receive modality‑specific clinical supervision appropriate to your caseload, alongside regular case management supervision and access to ongoing training and professional development.

Our clinicians are well resourced with modern IT and communications equipment. The service operates on a near‑paperless basis and uses the IAPTus patient administration system. You will be expected to communicate effectively with colleagues, MDT professionals, service users and members of the public, to respect confidentiality at all times, and to complete clinical and administrative tasks within agreed deadlines.

Qualifications and Professional Requirements

You will hold relevant qualifications (most likely at postgraduate level), be accredited with an appropriate professional body, and be able to demonstrate substantial knowledge and experience in adult mental health care.

Please note

Must be able to work on Wednesdays for this role. This is a hybrid role within the Basildon and Brentwood area, but we will also consider fully remote applications.
