Lead Design Engineer – Vacancy – Based in Chorley

An established engineering business is looking to recruit a Lead Design Engineer to take ownership of design deliverables across a range of complex mechanical handling projects. This role would suit someone with strong design experience looking for a next step up or someone senior who's keen for a new challenge.

The Role

  • Lead the design and development of equipment and systems from concept through to manufacture
  • Oversee 3D models, technical drawings, and design documentation
  • Coordinate design reviews and manage technical interfaces across projects
  • Ensure all outputs meet industry standards, project specifications, and quality requirements
  • Support and mentor Design Engineers within the team
  • Carry out site visits and surveys when required
  • Drive improvements around safety, DfMA, standardisation, and value engineering

What They're Looking For

  • HNC, Degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
  • Strong background in bulk material handling, conveyors or machinery
  • Experience using Autodesk Inventor and PDM systems (or Similar)
  • Good understanding of BS 8888 and manufacturing processes linked to heavy fabrication
  • Confident leading projects and checking technical documentation
  • Able to manage workloads across multiple projects and support junior engineers
