You may or may not have experience of working in a Data Centre! We are looking for a Facilities Engineer who is keen to expand their knowledge into the high availability arena of data centres.
You will probably have worked your way through an apprenticeship and be looking today to take on a more responsibility while being supported in obtaining further professional qualifications.
Communication skills both Written and Verbal are vital as well as aptitude in reading and interpretation of technical documents.
You must demonstrate good practical and problem-solving skills, be able to work both independently and as part of a team.
We expect you to have working knowledge of LV Electrical systems, HVAC and Security Systems.
The H&S of you and your colleagues takes priority and you will be expected to undertake training in this area and as part of your induction process.
Holding a full Driving Licence is a key requirement as the role will take you across multiple sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Infrastructure Maintenance: Monitor and maintain power (UPS, generators), cooling, and fire detection/suppression systems.
- Troubleshooting & Repair: Actively diagnose mechanical and electrical issues.
- Preventative Maintenance: Perform daily, weekly, or monthly inspections of infrastructure using PPM Schedules. Work on site with external contractors and supervise contractors for repairs.
- Safety & Compliance: Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, including OSHA and site-specific policies.
- Monitoring & Reporting: Use building management systems (BMS) to monitor systems and react to changes.
- Project Coordination: Assist with clients onto the data floor to ensure best practice is followed in the safe racking of equipment.
- Traveling: As required to other sites to assist as required during times of staff shortage or specific projects requiring additional personnel.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Technical Expertise: Working knowledge of critical infrastructure, including electrical systems (switchgear, generators) and HVAC systems.
- Education: You may have come through an Electrical or Mechanical services apprenticeship or a specific M&E university route; we are fully supported in gaining qualifications specific to the Data Centre Industry as well as Electrical and Mechanical services.
- Problem‑Solving: Ability to troubleshoot systems under pressure.
- Collaboration & Communication: Ability to work with IT, contractors, and vendors. Keep a cool head when others don’t.
- Flexibility: Willingness to work on‑call, weekends, or holidays to ensure 24/7 operations.
During the first 6 months you will be working Monday‑Friday days only based at our facility near Heathrow Airport; you will also spend time at other sites within 20 miles supporting and learning.
As Data Centres are 24/7/365 operations you may be required to support planned activity at any time.
After 6 months your role will include regular visits to the other sites supporting the wider facilities team.
