About The Role

Join Connect Plus Services and take on a leadership role within our Technology Services team, helping to maintain and enhance the critical technological infrastructure across the M25 network, based in South Mimms.

As Technology Services Lead Engineer, you will lead and manage a team of up to four engineers and technicians, ensuring effective task allocation, high performance, and operational excellence. Alongside your leadership responsibilities, you will remain hands‑on, attending site activities where required and providing expert technical guidance to support your team.

You will be responsible for the cyclic maintenance and fault rectification of key roadside technology systems, including CCTV, Emergency Roadside Telephones, MIDAS, RCC, NTIS, HAWIS, traffic signals, and message signs. All work will be delivered in line with quality plans and contractual requirements set by National Highways and Connect Plus Services.

This is an opportunity to play a vital role in the continued performance and safety of one of the UK’s most important transport networks.

Location and Working Arrangements

This role is based within CPS Area 5 and requires regular travel across the network to support operational activities. Flexibility is essential, as you will be required to respond to faults, emergencies, and operational demands. A full UK driving licence is required, and you must be comfortable working at height and in confined spaces when necessary.

What You'll Be Doing

Promote and adhere to the Zero Harm safety culture at all times, ensuring that all health and safety concerns are recorded and reported promptly.

Deliver a customer-focused, service-oriented, and commercially aware approach to all work.

Supervise and manage a team of engineers and technicians, ensuring effective workload distribution, performance management, and compliance with operational standards. This includes responsibility for timesheets, annual leave, sickness, and absence management.

Support field teams by attending jobs when required, providing technical guidance, and ensuring all activities meet contractual KPIs and quality requirements.

Carry out cyclic maintenance and fault rectification on roadside technology assets and attend faults, knockdowns, and corrective maintenance activities, including full site and equipment reinstatement.

Develop and implement fault reduction strategies, ensure that ServiceNow data is accurately captured, and maintain accurate asset and maintenance records. Liaise routinely with control offices, regional control centres, and traffic operations centres, as well as attending meetings when required.

Maintain technical proficiency in National Highways systems and software, ensure compliance with NHSS8 sector scheme requirements, and manage regional portfolios in line with CPS standards. Respond to emergencies in accordance with agreed procedures, provide technical support for third‑party faults, and ensure all equipment is securely logged, stored, and maintained.

Work closely with partners and stakeholders including Balfour Beatty, Atkins, Egis, and supply chain organisations to support consistent and high‑quality service delivery.

Who We're Looking For

Qualified to HNC or BTEC Higher National Certificate level in electronics or telecommunications engineering, or hold an agreed equivalent qualification, supported by significant industry experience. Alternatively, a minimum of eight years’ experience working on motorway communications or closely related systems.

Hold NHSS8 certification and have strong knowledge of National Highways communications infrastructure, standards, and testing requirements, including ADAMr.

Broad technology experience across systems such as MIDAS, CCTV, VMS, ERTs, NTIS, HAWIS, and traffic signals.

Effective people manager with the ability to lead, motivate, and develop a small technical team.

Strong communication skills, experience working with NRTS contractors, and flexibility to operate across different areas of the network.

Well‑organised, self‑motivated, and capable of managing competing priorities while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and performance.
