An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Packaging Development professional to join a leading FMCG food manufacturing business.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys taking packaging projects from concept through to factory implementation, while driving innovation, operational efficiency, sustainability, and cost improvement across a broad packaging portfolio.

The Opportunity

Working cross‑functionally with Commercial, Technical, Engineering, Production, Procurement, and Supply Chain teams, you will play a key role in developing and implementing packaging solutions that add value across branded, own‑label, and co‑pack products.

You will also work closely with suppliers, OEMs, and customers to ensure packaging formats remain commercially competitive, operationally efficient, and aligned with future market trends.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead packaging development projects from concept through to launch
  • Deliver packaging innovation, sustainability, and cost‑saving initiatives
  • Manage production trials, supplier testing, and implementation activity
  • Support operational troubleshooting and continuous improvement projects
  • Develop packaging specifications and maintain compliance documentation
  • Work with Procurement to identify alternative sourcing and savings opportunities
  • Collaborate with retailers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders on packaging initiatives
  • Identify emerging packaging technologies, materials, and market trends
  • Support palletisation optimisation and packaging efficiency improvements

About You

  • Experience within FMCG packaging development
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing and production environments
  • Knowledge across multiple packaging substrates, materials, and processes
  • Proven project management and stakeholder management skills
  • Passion for sustainability, innovation, and continuous improvement
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence across functions
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Packaging Technology, Engineering, Materials Science, or related discipline
