Role Overview

We’re looking for a Design Engineer to join our Kier Design team based in Leeds. Remote working is available with occasional travel to the office.

Hours and Working Arrangements

Hours: 40 hours per week. Some flexibility on hours may be available if desired; let us know when you speak to us.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to design delivery, including calculations, drawings, reports and risk assessments.
  • Identify and manage technical risks across the design and construction stages.
  • Undertake site visits, inspections, surveys and provide advice on SHE matters.
  • Have knowledge of rail or water sector standards, or transferable infrastructure experience.
  • Support tenders and live projects by providing technical input.
  • Deliver Permanent Works design across Kier Design’s infrastructure portfolio.
  • Design safe, buildable, cost‑effective solutions from concept to delivery.
  • Develop alternative designs and value‑engineering solutions to strengthen competitiveness.
  • Fulfil Job Leader responsibilities, including client liaison, fee/programme input, design delivery, workload planning and compliance with Kier Quality Management Systems.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Proven experience delivering civil and structural infrastructure design.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Experience with rail or water sector standards.
  • Knowledge of WIMES or Minimum Asset Standards.
  • Exposure to water or wastewater treatment environments.
  • Previous M&E design experience (e.g. simple hydraulics, pump selection etc).
