This post presents a unique and exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified individual to become involved in the new Haemato‑oncology service created by the integration of haemato‑oncology services from the Royal Liverpool Hospital and Aintree University Hospitals (now LUHFT) with Clatterbridge Cancer Centre. The post includes the following key remits:

  • To contribute to the delivery of haemato‑oncology (with focus on, Myeloma) in CCCL and outpatient and consultative haemato‑oncology at Aintree site of LUHFT.
  • To contribute, and lead on clinical trials and research.
  • To contribute to a high‑quality, sustainable, integrated haemato‑oncology services over CCCL and Aintree sites.

This Consultant post offers opportunities for career development and involvement in teaching, research, and innovation in the areas of myeloma disorders. This post will be based mainly on the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre site with sessions in the Aintree hospital site and on‑call work at CCCL. The notional job plan includes a total of 10 programmed activities and 0.5 PA for predictable on call.

Interviews will be held on 15th July 2026.

Main duties of the job

Clinical duties will include outpatient and inpatient clinical work in CCC‑L. It includes in reach and consultative work for Aintree site LUHFT one day a week and participation in a shared on‑call commitment covering CCCL. Formal laboratory sessions may be included depending on applicant interest.

The post holders will participate in the Consultant Haemato‑oncology on‑call rota, which is based at the CCCL with SpR operating a first on call system. This will be an approximately 1 in 10 on‑call commitment.

Indicative timetable

An indicative timetable includes a mix of patient clinics, multidisciplinary meetings, research and administrative activities. On‑call commitments are approximately 1 in 10.

Qualifications

  • Full and Specialist registration (and with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC), or be eligible for registration within six months of interview
  • Applicants that are non‑UK trained, will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT
  • FRCPath or equivalent
  • MRCP or equivalent
  • Applicants that are UK trained, must be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
  • Higher degree of PhD or MD, by postgraduate thesis
  • Relevant Certificate in communication
  • Experience of working in a centre delivering CAR‑T

Knowledge

  • Experience of clinical and laboratory haematology
  • Expertise in diagnosing haematological malignancy
  • Experience of clinical audit

Experience

  • Insight into managing and leading clinical teams
  • Experience and evidence of service improvement
  • Experience and evidence of collaborative work across clinical network groups
  • Development of clinical pathways
  • Experience of budget management

Teaching Experience

  • Ability to teach all grades of clinical and laboratory staff, including those in training
  • Experience of teaching basic clinical skills to undergraduates
  • Experience of supervising medical trainees and delivering examination‑focused teaching
  • Undertaking or have formal accreditation in medical education
  • Experience of involvement in postgraduate examinations

Research Experience

  • Experience in the governance arrangements required for research and clinical trials
  • Experience in clinical research
