Consultant In Anaesthesia

Main duties of the job

Consultant in Anaesthesia – working at Barnet and Chase Farm Hospitals under the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust. The role involves delivering adult and paediatric general anaesthesia at both hospitals.

• Location: Barnet Hospital – an acute hospital with emergency services and seven operating theatres.
• Location: Chase Farm Hospital – an elective hub with eight operating theatres.

The successful candidate will have a CCT in Anaesthesia and will be on call one in 16 weekdays and one in 16 weekends covering out of hours emergencies.

Person Specification

• Full GMC registration with a license to practice.
• MBBS or equivalent.
• On GMC Specialist Register via CCT in Anaesthesia (proposed CCT date must be within six months of interview).
• CESR or European Community Right.
• FRCA or equivalent.
• MD or PhD.
• Training and education of undergraduate and postgraduate students, including understanding of recent changes in the training of Anaesthetic Doctors.
• Possession of ATLS.
• Possession of ALS/EPLS/APLS certificates.
• Instructor ALS/EPLS/APLS certificates.
• Course in Undergraduate and Postgraduate teaching.
• Training the Trainers course.
• Strong teaching skills and experience.
• Understanding of clinical governance and audit procedures.
• Ability to work within a multi‑disciplinary team.
• Motivated, flexible and enthusiastic.
• Reconfiguration of services or clinical innovation.

Salary and Benefits

£109,725 to £145,478 per annum plus £2,162 London weighting.
