Job Description
The successful candidate will adopt a flexible approach to job planning and provide patient services across specialties beyond the main department. The department offers consultants a sub‑specialist role, with an emphasis on breast reconstruction—including microvascular techniques—and the ability to act as second surgeon in free flaps. Hand trauma experience is desirable.
Effective communication and collaboration within a multidisciplinary team are vital. The candidate is also expected to raise the department’s national profile through publications and presentations at international meetings.
Consultants participate in a 1:6 weekday on‑call rota, supported by junior trainees and a Hospital at Night team.
The post is a consultant contract with a 10‑per‑week full‑time (PA) plan, reviewed annually. Part‑time appointments are considered where the consultant can commit to a proportionate schedule, to be negotiated with the Clinical Director and colleagues.
The role is available from December 2026, subject to satisfactory pre‑employment checks. If you anticipate being unable to start by then, please note this at application.
An appointment will typically involve two operating sessions and two clinics each week, with flexible commitments for administration, clinical or educational supervision roles and SPA duties. The candidate will also be expected to contribute to routine weekend working where required.

Two operating sessions per week and two clinics. Timetable finalised upon appointment.
