Job Purpose
The purpose of this role is to effectively plan, coordinate, and optimise labour across the site to ensure uninterrupted production and smooth day-to-day operations. Working closely with operational teams, the Labour Planner will ensure workforce levels are aligned with production schedules, operational demands, and budget targets.
The role plays a key part in supporting informed decision-making through the provision of accurate labour data, identifying and anticipating staffing gaps, and driving proactive actions, including recruitment planning, to maintain full operational coverage. The position will also contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across departments, helping to enhance efficiency, performance, and overall site operations.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Produce the daily labour schedule to ensure staffing levels meet the production plan.
- Review and adjust labour allocation throughout the day to respond to operational changes.
- Maintain accurate standard manning levels and ensure production teams adhere to them.
- Work with Planning, Finance and HR to align labour requirements with production, cost and headcount targets.
- Forecast short, medium and long‑term labour needs, including seasonal and promotional peaks.
- Provide agencies with accurate labour forecasts and manage temporary labour requirements.
- Identify future resource gaps by monitoring holidays, absence, sickness and site activities.
- Support the development of a long‑term recruitment strategy for the site.
- Confirm overtime requirements and ensure usage aligns with operational needs.
- Lead regular labour review meetings with business leads.
- Produce weekly and monthly labour reports, highlighting variances and improvement opportunities.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Previous labour scheduling experience from an FMCG background.
- Strong organisational skills with experience of interrogating data and costs.
- Awareness and understanding of business drivers and factors that impact related KPIs.
- Exceptional communication skills with previous experience of influencing stakeholders at all levels.
