Overview

Join our Clinical Negligence department as a Grade B Solicitor (or equivalent) to manage your own caseload with autonomy and receive support from a collaborative team, including APIL, AvMA, and Law Society Clinical Negligence Panel members.

Responsibilities

  • Run an individual caseload.
  • Provide support, guidance, and assistance to the team to deliver outstanding service to clients.
  • Contribute to proactive and commercial case management and progression across the team.
  • Support the Team Leader/Head of Department in ensuring the delivery of the team’s financial and performance KPIs.
  • Ensure effective and thorough time recording.
  • Discuss and agree case tactics and planning with the Team Leader/Head of Department and team members.
  • Identify and drive cases ready for LOC, settlement, and service within the team.
  • Co‑ordinate the progression of cases with all internal and external parties.
  • Draft legal documentation, including LOC and letters of instruction.
  • Negotiate settlement, issue, and service proceedings if required.
  • Litigate claims as required.
  • Oversee documentation and correspondence produced by the team.
  • Advise the team on technical issues with support from the Team Leader/Head of Department.
  • Attend conferences with counsel, meetings with clients, and court outside standard hours when necessary.
  • Participate in business development activities and contribute ideas and articles.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Recent experience of handling a caseload.
  • 5+ years PQE or equivalent experience working in Clinical Negligence.
  • Excellent organisational and time‑management skills.
  • Excellent communication and drafting skills.
  • Strong IT skills, especially in Microsoft Office packages, Proclaim, and Excel.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong commercial awareness within a legal environment.
  • Ability to mentor junior team members.
  • Flexibility and willingness to meet deadlines and achieve results.
  • Excellent client‑care skills.
  • Resilience and experience managing challenging situations.
  • A full clean driving licence is desirable.
