Solicitor or Equivalent (Clinical Negligence Grade B)
Location: Northampton/Hybrid
Overview
Join our Clinical Negligence department as a Grade B Solicitor (or equivalent) to manage your own caseload with autonomy and receive support from a collaborative team, including APIL, AvMA, and Law Society Clinical Negligence Panel members.

Responsibilities
- Run an individual caseload.
- Provide support, guidance, and assistance to the team to deliver outstanding service to clients.
- Contribute to proactive and commercial case management and progression across the team.
- Support the Team Leader/Head of Department in ensuring the delivery of the team’s financial and performance KPIs.
- Ensure effective and thorough time recording.
- Discuss and agree case tactics and planning with the Team Leader/Head of Department and team members.
- Identify and drive cases ready for LOC, settlement, and service within the team.
- Co‑ordinate the progression of cases with all internal and external parties.
- Draft legal documentation, including LOC and letters of instruction.
- Negotiate settlement, issue, and service proceedings if required.
- Litigate claims as required.
- Oversee documentation and correspondence produced by the team.
- Advise the team on technical issues with support from the Team Leader/Head of Department.
- Attend conferences with counsel, meetings with clients, and court outside standard hours when necessary.
- Participate in business development activities and contribute ideas and articles.
Qualifications and Skills
- Recent experience of handling a caseload.
- 5+ years PQE or equivalent experience working in Clinical Negligence.
- Excellent organisational and time‑management skills.
- Excellent communication and drafting skills.
- Strong IT skills, especially in Microsoft Office packages, Proclaim, and Excel.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Strong commercial awareness within a legal environment.
- Ability to mentor junior team members.
- Flexibility and willingness to meet deadlines and achieve results.
- Excellent client‑care skills.
- Resilience and experience managing challenging situations.
- A full clean driving licence is desirable.
