ZSL – London Zoo is recruiting a Programme Manager (maternity cover) for the Aquatic Species and Policy team of the Conservation and Policy Department. The role will oversee project delivery across two key projects:
- Project SIARC – Sharks Inspiring Action and Research with Communities, focused on protecting sharks, skates and rays and community engagement in Wales.
- The Angel Shark Project (ASP) – a multidisciplinary collaboration to collect ecological data and secure the future of Critically Endangered angel sharks across seven regional projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead management and strategic delivery of the National Lottery Heritage Fund grant (NLHF) for Project SIARC, including the delivery phase application; support delivery of the Nature Networks Fund 5 grant for Project SIARC.
- Make key decisions regarding project implementation, deliverables, community engagement and events, aligned with grant contracts, work plans and budgets.
- Oversee project implementation, monitor and evaluate progress, and maintain learning plans and logframes or Gantt charts to support adaptive management across both projects.
- Identify fundraising opportunities and secure grant funding to deliver the projects.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships and partnerships with government authorities, NGOs, private sector, research institutions, community organisations and donors.
- Lead budget forecasting and financial management for the projects, ensuring proper use of ZSL and partner funds.
- Advocate for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion learning across the programme and ensure projects are approved via ZSL’s Ethical Review Process for both humans and wildlife.
Qualifications & Experience
- Strong experience managing and delivering complex multi‑partner projects on time and to budget.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience using project management processes.
- Proven track record of fundraising and developing grant proposals over £1 million.
- Experience working within Wales, the UK and/or the EU conservation landscape.
- Excellent organisational and time‑management skills with self‑motivation and problem‑solving ability.
- Ability to build and develop relationships with a wide range of cross‑sectoral stakeholders.
- Previous experience creating inclusive working environments where everyone feels safe and embraced.
- Proven ability to write reports for a variety of audiences (scientific, technical, wider public).
