Job overview

We are recruiting for a Private Patient and Commercial Service Manager who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.

The post holder will lead on addressing the strategic and operational agenda of the Trust in relation to private patients and overseas visitors.

They will lead responsibility for the day‑to‑day management of all operational issues within their services or departments.

The Private Patient and Commercial Service Manager will have to ensure the effective delivery of services to patients in accordance with agreed objectives, targets, quality standards, controls and resource constraints.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will need to understand the business requirements and implement plans for service improvement using modernisation techniques and involve patients to ensure changes to services meet patients’ expectations as well as ensuring the required capacity to meet key clinical performance targets.

  • Maintain and strategically develop the Trust’s Private Patient income at Mount Vernon.
  • Ensure all practising consultants are compliant with the Private Patients register.
  • Maintain the Trust’s systems and processes for identifying and charging overseas visitors not eligible for NHS funded care.
  • Directly manage the Private Patient and Overseas Service co‑ordinator team across the Trust.
  • Deliver performance against key performance indicators and support the private patients work stream across the Trust.

Qualifications / Training

  • Degree or equivalent / equivalent experience
  • Clinical Qualification
  • Prince 2

Previous Experience

  • Extensive experience in a senior post
  • Experience of working at an operational level
  • Evidence of extensive experience in service development and change
  • Experience of working within a quality framework, which has mechanisms to ensure its continuity
  • Staff management
  • Project management
  • Experience of performance management
  • Experience of working across the healthcare community

Skills

  • Proven change and project management skills
  • Advanced communication and effective interpersonal skills
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Highly analytical and numerate with ability to present a logical argument using data and information
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Excellent organisational skills

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of the NHS Cancer Reform Strategy
  • Knowledge of the workings of specialised services and acute hospitals
  • Knowledge of wider issues surrounding NHS healthcare
  • Knowledge of commercial business
