Service Manager – Children’s Residential Services

Location: Birmingham
Salary: £65,000 per annum
Contract: Full Time, Permanent
Working Pattern: Monday to Friday with weekend on-call responsibilities

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Service Manager to oversee and lead a portfolio of 5–6 children’s residential homes across Birmingham supporting young people with Learning Disabilities (LD) and Emotional & Behavioural Difficulties (EBD).

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide effective leadership and operational oversight across 5–6 residential homes
  • Support, mentor and develop Registered Managers and staff teams
  • Ensure all homes operate in line with Ofsted regulations, Children’s Homes Regulations, and company policies
  • Drive high standards of care, safeguarding, and compliance
  • Monitor and improve service quality, performance, and occupancy levels
  • Lead on audits, action plans, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local authorities, external professionals, and stakeholders
  • Support recruitment, retention, and staff development across services
  • Participate in the out-of-hours on‑call rota, including weekend cover where required
  • Promote a culture that is child‑focused, people‑centred, and outcome‑driven

Essential Requirements

  • Minimum 3–4 years’ experience as a Registered Manager within children’s residential care
  • Significant experience working with children and young people with LD and EBD needs
  • Strong understanding of Ofsted regulations and safeguarding practices
  • Proven leadership and multi‑site management experience
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and problem‑solving skills
  • A people‑orientated management style with the ability to motivate and inspire teams
  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or equivalent)
  • Full UK driving licence

The successful candidate will provide operational leadership, support Registered Managers, drive quality and compliance standards, and promote a positive, child‑centred culture across all services.
