Role Summary
The QA Analyst will be responsible for ensuring that all application releases within IT Services meet agreed standards of quality and fitness for purpose. Through engagement with suppliers, partner teams, project personnel and users, the analyst will design, execute, and analyse testing processes across the full project lifecycle to provide evidence of quality and value for money.
Main Duties
Business Process Testing
- Specify and develop test scenarios that validate new or updated processes and deliver intended business efficiencies.
- Record and analyse test results, report unexpected outcomes, and update user instructions based on plan outcomes.
Testing
- Create test cases derived from functional and non‑functional specifications.
- Maintain traceability records linking test cases to requirements.
- Produce test scripts, regression packs and environment specifications.
- Execute complex test scripts, document results, and maintain a defect register.
- Modify tests as needed, report progress, anomalies, risks, and issues, and provide metrics on test case performance.
- Deliver specialist advice to support colleagues.
Quality Management
- Support planning of quality management for projects or functions.
- Help develop improved practices and organisational processes or standards.
- Facilitate localised improvements to the quality system or services.
Quality Assurance
- Contribute to evidence collection and execution of formal audits or reviews.
- Verify that testing and quality control activities comply with organisational directives and standards.
- Identify non‑compliances, non‑conformances and abnormal occurrences.
Supplier Management and Sourcing
- Assist in pre‑qualification and tender invitation processes.
- Compile tender information and evaluation criteria.
- Participate in tender evaluation.
Specialist Advice
- Maintain knowledge in one or more specialisms and provide detailed guidance on application within the organisation.
- Recognise boundaries of specialist knowledge and collaborate with peers to ensure appropriate advice.
Additional Responsibilities
- Functional, systems, integration, regression, load, stress and user acceptance testing.
- Defect management and testing tool utilisation, including test automation tools.
- Contribution to policy, procedure and plan developments.
- Promotion of equality, diversity and inclusive working culture.
- Support sustainability agenda through resource‑efficient practices.
- Other duties commensurate with the grade.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications, Experience
- Degree level education or equivalent technical qualification with extensive practical experience in a similar role.
- Deep understanding of quality assurance approaches, processes and tools.
- Ability to develop testing approaches that meet university needs and communicate effectively across user, customer and technical areas.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving and decision‑making skills.
- Capacity to handle multiple initiatives and plan across short and long time‑scales.
- Literacy and numeracy, strong written communication and data analysis ability.
- Knowledge of the Equality Act 2010 and commitment toward equal treatment of protected characteristics.
