Principal Software Engineer (FinTech) - £80,000-£90,000 - Hybrid

A fast-growing fintech company is looking for a highly hands-on Staff Software Engineer to help drive platform modernisation, cloud transformation, and intelligent automation across a rapidly scaling technology environment.

This is a senior individual contributor role with strong technical influence across engineering and product teams. You’ll work closely with stakeholders to modernise legacy systems, improve platform architecture, streamline integrations, and introduce practical AI-assisted engineering solutions.

The position suits someone who enjoys solving complex technical problems, shaping engineering direction, and remaining deeply involved in delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead modernisation of legacy .NET applications and platform architecture
• Design and deliver scalable cloud-native solutions within Azure
• Improve system integrations, APIs, and internal developer tooling
• Drive automation initiatives and AI-assisted workflows across engineering operations
• Support platform scalability, resilience, and performance improvements
• Champion engineering best practices, technical standards, and architectural quality
• Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership across cross-functional teams
• Collaborate closely with product, operations, and leadership stakeholders

Essential Skills

• Strong background in software engineering and systems transformation
• Deep experience with .NET technologies, including legacy .NET Framework environments
• Strong Azure cloud experience and modern distributed application architecture
• Excellent SQL, scripting, API integration, and backend engineering skills
• Experience implementing automation tooling and AI-assisted development workflows
• Ability to operate at both strategic and hands-on technical levels
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills

Desirable Experience

• Previous experience mentoring engineers or acting as a technical lead
