Trainee Project Engineer – Heavy Fabrication (Energy Sector)

Location: Nigg Energy Park (IV19)

Salary: Competitive, with structured graduate development

Contract: Permanent, Full Time

About the Company

We are a specialist fabrication company delivering large, complex steel structures for the energy industry, supporting major projects across oil & gas, nuclear, and renewable energy. Our work ranges from concept support and detailed engineering through to manufacture, inspection, and delivery, with quality, safety, and technical excellence at the core of everything we do.

As part of our continued growth, we are looking to recruit a Graduate Engineer to join our engineering and operations team, offering an excellent opportunity to develop hands‑on experience in heavy fabrication within a structured, supportive environment.

The Role

This is a varied and practical graduate role, providing exposure to the full lifecycle of large fabricated structures. Working closely with experienced engineers, project managers, and production teams, you will support both engineering delivery and shop‑floor activities while developing your technical and commercial awareness.

Key responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting the preparation and review of fabrication drawings, specifications, and technical documentation
  • Assisting with production planning, method development, and engineering workflows
  • Liaising with fabrication, welding, quality, and inspection teams to support safe and efficient delivery
  • Supporting project engineers with technical queries, material take‑offs, and progress reporting
  • Gaining exposure to industry standards, codes, and client requirements across oil & gas, nuclear, and renewables
  • Participating in continuous improvement initiatives across engineering and fabrication processes

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for a motivated and inquisitive engineering graduate who is keen to build a long‑term career in heavy fabrication and the energy sector.

Essential:

  • Degree (or near completion) in Mechanical, Structural, Manufacturing, or related Engineering discipline
  • Strong interest in fabrication, welding, and large structural engineering
  • Good problem‑solving skills and a practical mindset
  • Willingness to work both in an office and workshop environment
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a multi‑disciplinary team
  • Must be able to commute to our Nigg facility (IV19) on a daily basis
  • Must be eligible to live and work in the UK with no current or future Visa/Sponsorship requirements

Desirable:

  • Industrial placement or internship experience within fabrication, construction, or energy
  • Basic knowledge of fabrication drawings, welding processes, or structural steelwork
  • Familiarity with engineering software such as AutoCAD, CAD packages, or planning tools

What We Offer

  • A structured graduate development pathway with mentoring from experienced engineers
  • Real project exposure across major energy sector programmes
  • Hands‑on experience in heavy fabrication and manufacturing environments
  • Training and development aligned to industry standards and long‑term career progression
  • Competitive salary and benefits package

Why Join Us?

This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate engineer who wants more than a desk‑based role. You’ll gain valuable, hands‑on experience in the fabrication of major energy infrastructure, develop a strong technical foundation, and be supported as you grow into a key part of our engineering team.

Please apply online or by submitting your CV to recruitment@maraenholdings.com.

Closing date for applications 5 June 2026.
