Working with The Royal Household, you’ll play a vital role in maintaining and enhancing an extraordinary portfolio of heritage assets – ensuring they continue to support royal duties while being preserved for generations.
The Opportunity
As a Senior Building Surveyor, you’ll take ownership of a varied and prestigious estate, leading on planned and cyclical maintenance, minor works, and sustainability initiatives, while collaborating closely with the wider operations team.
This is a hands-on leadership role with real impact – combining heritage conservation, modern building performance, and Net Zero ambitions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a small team
- Drive building surveying strategy, with a strong focus on sustainability and Net Zero delivery
- Oversee planned & reactive maintenance, condition surveys, and building pathology
- Manage a diverse portfolio of projects from inception to completion
- Develop best-practice approaches to repair, conservation, and maintenance of listed buildings
- Monitor energy performance and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and sustainability
- Manage budgets, contracts, and procurement processes to ensure value for money
- Ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements, driving a culture of risk management
- Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and specialist teams across the estate
About You
You’re an experienced and confident Building Surveyor who thrives in complex, high-profile environments.
- Chartered Building Surveyor (MRICS or equivalent)
- Proven experience leading teams and developing staff
- Strong background in historic / listed buildings and occupied multi-site estates
- Demonstrable experience delivering sustainable building strategies and Net Zero initiatives
- Expertise in statutory compliance, risk management, and contract management
- Strong project management skills across a varied workload
- Experience with CAFM systems and CAD tools
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and leadership skills
You’ll also bring a proactive, solutions-focused approach – with the confidence to make decisions and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
