Consultant Psychiatrist – Worcester City

We are looking to recruit a dynamic, motivated Consultant Psychiatrist to join the Worcester City Neighbourhood Mental Health Team.

About the Team

Our team provides accessible, person-centred mental health care support to adults with a range of needs, including severe, complex, and enduring conditions. We work collaboratively with primary care, social care, voluntary sector partners and community services to deliver integrated, recovery-focused care. Our aim is seamless care across organisational boundaries with no wrong front door referral policy and a step-up and step-down flow of patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Accept and manage referrals for working age adult patients aged 17 and over from local mental health inpatient wards, GP practices, the South Home Treatment Team and the South Early Intervention Service.
  • Provide psychosocial interventions including Crisis Safety Planning, Emotional Management and Distress Tolerance Skills, Anxiety Management, Early Warning Signs/Relapse Prevention, Behavioural Activation and Sleep Hygiene.
  • Lead the Managing Emotions Group for patients with emotional dysregulation and support further psychological work such as DBT.
  • Participate in twice-weekly referrals meetings and monthly team meetings for education and administration.
  • Ensure timely access to NMHT services within 28 days of referral and maintain service targets.
  • Work within three psychological pathways: dedicated Bipolar and Psychosis pathway, trauma-specific Specialised Individual (SI) pathway and the more generalised Specialised Team (ST) pathway.
  • Carry out tasks as outlined in the full job description and person specification.

Qualifications

  • Full registration with the General Medical Council (or eligible for full registration at time of appointment).
  • MBBS or equivalent primary medical qualification.

Experience

  • Minimum 12 years of medical work (continuous or aggregate) since obtaining a primary medical qualification, with at least six years in a relevant specialty, in line with the 2021 Specialist Grade Contract.

Knowledge

  • Relevant clinical experience in adult psychiatry.
  • Knowledge of appropriate medical, pharmacological and psychological treatments in general adult psychiatry.
  • Understanding of the NHS and the evidence base underpinning high quality service delivery.
  • Understanding of the importance of excellent team working relationships and the ability to implement this in practice.

  • Ability to work across teams and disciplinary boundaries in a collaborative style.
