Overview
Our client is seeking a Senior Azure Data Engineer to join a growing Managed Services team within a leading digital consultancy. This is a client-facing role focused on supporting and enhancing enterprise-scale data platforms and cloud-based solutions across multiple customer environments.
The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring data environments are reliable, scalable, secure, and high performing, while contributing technical expertise across cloud engineering, operational support, CI/CD, and data platform optimisation.
This opportunity is well suited to an experienced Data Engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, working collaboratively with stakeholders, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives within agile delivery environments.

- Participation in an on-call support rota is required
Responsibilities
- Supporting and enhancing data solutions built on Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory, SQL Server, and SSIS
- Monitoring, troubleshooting, and resolving production data pipeline issues across multiple client environments
- Designing and implementing CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes for data workflows
- Leading performance tuning, optimisation, and reliability improvements across data platforms
- Collaborating with technical and non-technical stakeholders to gather requirements and communicate solutions clearly
- Maintaining strong client relationships with a focus on service reliability and value delivery
- Supporting scalable and resilient data architecture approaches
- Championing best practices across testing, deployment, automation, and operational support
- Mentoring junior engineers and supporting capability development within the engineering team
- Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives and operational excellence
Requirements
- Proven experience supporting production data pipelines and enterprise data platforms
- Strong expertise in T‑SQL and SQL Server administration, optimisation, and performance tuning
- Hands‑on experience with Microsoft Fabric and Azure Data Factory
- Experience building and maintaining ETL processes using SSIS
- Strong understanding of scalable and resilient cloud‑based architectures
- Experience designing and implementing CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps or similar tooling
- Experience working within Agile delivery environments such as Scrum or Kanban
- Understanding of Test‑Driven Development (TDD) principles
- Strong stakeholder communication and relationship management skills
- Experience managing multiple client or production environments simultaneously
- Ability to diagnose and resolve complex operational and platform issues
- Understanding of data governance, metadata management, and data quality practices
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, Bicep, or ARM templates
- Familiarity with Power BI, Synapse Analytics, and wider Microsoft Azure data services
- Experience with Python or other scripting languages for automation and transformation
- Exposure to IT Service Management platforms such as ServiceNow or HaloPSA
- Consultancy or managed services experience
- Experience using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, or similar monitoring platforms
