Associate Director – AI Lab
We are looking for an Associate Director to join our new AI Lab, which supports the safe, trustworthy deployment of AI in the UK as organisations transform and realise benefits from these exciting new technologies. The role spans two streams: providing market‑leading AI assurance for clients focused on model risk and data risk, and building and deploying AI products to support the transformation of Deloitte’s Audit and Assurance practice.
Role Overview
The Associate Director will lead the development, growth, and operational excellence of the AI Lab, building a team of approximately 25 AI specialists, shaping the lab into a £10m business over five years, and driving the adoption of technical AI assurance within the UK market.
Responsibilities
- Build, lead and nurture a team of 25 AI specialists.
- Develop strong relationships and influence with stakeholders across the UK AI ecosystem, helping steer the approach to AI assurance.
- Lead market activation for Deloitte’s technical AI assurance proposition and develop the team’s project pipeline.
- Lead the development of Deloitte’s technical AI assurance playbook.
- Collaborate with colleagues to understand business needs, then lead the development, deployment, and assurance of AI assets to transform Deloitte’s Audit and Assurance practice.
- Collaborate with like‑minded Deloitte colleagues across the UK and globally.

Essential
- Experience of developing and executing business strategy.
- Experience of influencing stakeholders at C‑suite and non‑executive levels.
- Experience of building and leading technical teams.
- Experience of market activation, business development and winning work.
- Experience of developing AI or ML thought leadership.
- Strong network across the UK’s AI ecosystem.
- End‑to‑end experience of leading and managing multiple data science and analytics projects in different industries and with different types of data (text, numerical, categorical).
- Strong technical understanding and experience of AI and ML modelling techniques.
- Strong technical understanding of validating AI, GenAI and ideally Agentic AI.
- Ability to communicate complex concepts in a simple way.
- Strong understanding and experience of cloud‑based analytics platforms.
- Strong experience coaching junior data scientists/analysts.
- Strong experience reviewing code and documentation to a high standard.
- Strong experience exercising software engineering best practices (e.g., test‑driven development, smart data structure and algorithm selection).
Desirable
- Agentic AI experience.
- Experience validating ML, GenAI and Agentic AI models and continuous monitoring frameworks.
- Experience with Azure Databricks, Azure MLflow, Azure ML services or other ML services.
- Experience working in a Dev/MLOps environment.
- Experience using Docker and Kubernetes.
