About The Role
Great British Energy is looking for a Head of Finance to join our GBE Local Directorate Team. This role will play a key part in contributing to projects, objectives, and wider organisational goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop GBE's annual budget and in‑year forecasts, and work with CFO and Director of Strategy on a multi‑year business plan.
- Provide high‑quality financial reporting and insight to the Executive Team, Board and Committees to support decision‑making.
- Create a positive control environment, developing a mature organisational approach to risk and a robust approach to counter fraud, anti‑bribery and anti‑corruption within the organisation.
- Ensure compliance with Managing Public Money, and own key finance policies including delegations, expenditure approval, accounting policies and financial procedures.
- Support the development and review of investment papers and business cases, including financial modelling, affordability, value‑for‑money and accounting implications.
- Ensure effective monthly close and control routines, including reconciliations, balance‑sheet substantiation and management review.
- Advise on the accounting treatment of transactions under IFRS and the FReM, including classification, measurement and disclosure.
- Prepare or oversee inputs into GBE's Annual Report and Accounts, including primary statements, notes and supporting working papers.
- Ensure compliance with Companies Act, public sector reporting and shareholder reporting requirements, including disclosures relating to governance, remuneration and financial instruments.
- Shape and start to build the company's financial operating model including systems, processes and structures.
- Build and lead a high‑performing finance team, setting clear objectives, developing capability and embedding a culture of accountability and professionalism.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
- A full financial qualification (CCAB, CIMA, CIPFA or equivalent).
- Proven experience in a senior finance leadership role within the public sector with expert knowledge of central government public finance management principles, Managing Public Money, and the role of the Accounting Officers.
- Expertise in building and developing finance functions, teams, and systems, including shared services.
- Excellent advisory skills, capable of providing robust, impartial advice to senior stakeholders at pace.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a fast‑paced and changing organisation.
- Experienced in creating a positive control environment, ensuring funds are used as intended and that internal and external financial reporting meets high standards.
Desirable Qualifications
- Experience in strategic planning, budgeting, and financial modelling.
- Knowledge of working across various financial domains (Financial Control, FP&A, etc).
- Experience of investments related projects.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- High attention to detail combined with a strategic mindset.
